Born in Seattle, Nicolina has been making public art in NYC since 2002.
Her colorful murals, window painting and guerrilla street art are visible throughout Manhattan, especially on the Lower East Side. You can also find her work at Grand Central Station, painted on pedicabs throughout Central Park, and around the world in India, Mexico, Toronto, Seattle, and Los Angeles. Her studio art includes canvasses, collages, mixed media and group painting projects. An ongoing theme in her work is the use of anatomical hearts, recently used in the Body Shop's Love Cube promotion.
Her latest project is Hearts of the World, an ongoing international Art Project with kids from all over the globe, beginning in the Lower East Side of Manhattan with the L.E.S. Girls Club. Each child is given a panel with an outline of an anatomical heart and are encouraged to fill it in with whatever they feel is inside their own -- with things that they love, their passions and dreams for life. All of the hearts will come together to create a large multi-paneled piece which will be displayed in public locations in Manhattan including Beth Israel Hospital. Nicolina also founded the Free Arts Society, a non-profit, collaborative based artist alliance dedicated to cultivating a creative community and freeing art from traditional spaces and bringing it to the general public.
